Liverpool youngster Nalo was dyed red in his first two substitute appearances in his career. Van Dijk and Konate immediately comforted him.

Liverpool defeated Crystal Palace 0-3 in this round of the League Cup. 18-year-old central defender Amara Nalo was sent off again for the second time in her first-team career.

Liverpool defender Amara Nallo received a red card just 12 minutes after coming on as a substitute against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night. So far, he has been expelled in his only two appearances for the club.

The 18-year-old came on as a replacement for Alexis McAllister in the 67th minute of Wednesday's Carabao Cup match at Anfield. In the 79th minute, when Justin Devine went straight to the goal, Nalo pulled him down and was directly shown a red card.

This continues the embarrassing record of the young defender: he was also sent off early in his only previous appearance for Liverpool. In the Champions League in January this year, he made his senior team debut in a team with a significantly rotated lineup. In that game, Liverpool lost 2-3 to PSV Eindhoven.

But that appearance was also unforgettable: Nalo came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute and was sent off with a red card for destroying the opponent's scoring opportunity after only 4 minutes of play. This means that Nalo has only played 16 minutes for the Red Army's first team, but has been ejected twice.

Nalo joined Liverpool from the West Ham United Youth Academy in August 2023, and has since mainly played for the U21 echelon. But his two chances with the first team didn't go as planned, which undoubtedly caused a setback in his development.

Looking at Nalo's performance on behalf of the U21 echelon and the European Youth League in recent years, the 18-year-old former West Ham United defender has shown talent - excellent ball control ability, strong physical fitness and quick speed. Liverpool fans will also be looking forward to more opportunities for him in the coming months.

Reassuringly, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konat went to the dressing room tunnel immediately after the incident to comfort Nalo. He experienced such setbacks despite accumulating only 16 minutes of playing time in his career. Two senior defenders told him that mistakes were inevitable and the top priority now was to pick up and move forward. This speaks volumes about leadership.
