Liverpool Chairman: Slott has always been the club s first choice, Wirtz may win the Ballon d Or in the future

The Atheltic's Liverpool reporter James Pearce wrote a new book about the inside story of Slott's victory last season. The book published an interview with Liverpool chairman Tom Werner.

In the spring of 2024, Fenway Group had high hopes for Edwards and Hughes, hoping that the two could find Klopp's replacement, and eventually they signed Slott. Tom Werner said: "With Edwards and Hughes, we are confident that they have found the right person. Slott has been their first choice and he has proved it.

It was a surprise and a delight to everyone that he was so good in his first season, and one of his great qualities is his sincerity. Slott did not try to be a Knickerbocker. Jurgen Klopp or Guardiola, he is who he is and he is very good in every aspect. I think he sees this as a great opportunity to come to a strong club and take over a team with great talent and he believes that he can work with them and improve the performance. He is a great strategist and takes over an already very good team. He has the perfect combination of humility and deep confidence in his ability. I had the opportunity to watch training before the last game of last season. As a head coach, Slott can focus on coaching, which is very effective, and the cooperative relationship between him, Hughes and Edwards is also very harmonious."

Talking about the renovation of Anfield Stadium, Tom Werner said: "We are extremely proud of the renovation of Anfield Stadium. After acquiring the club in 2010, we considered the plan to build a new stadium proposed by the previous owner, but we believe that Anfield has such a long history.

The choice we face is not to stay in Anfield. How about making Anfield bigger, better and more impressive? 'The more success we have at the stadium, the more revenue we generate through matchdays, commercials and broadcasts, which goes back to the club and allows us to do all the things we are doing. Great things to do. We are never satisfied, we keep improving, and the goal is always to win more trophies."

Talking about the huge investment this summer, Tom Werner said: "When you have the opportunity to sign a player of this level, you must seize the opportunity. Take Wirtz, he is extremely talented, and we may be witnessing a future Ballon d'Or winner. So much has been said about him and even if only half of it comes true, he will be a huge asset to our team

This summer is a completely different situation to last year and we feel there are some players on the market who can strengthen us and the fans who always want us to invest money in the transfer market will be happy with some of the decisions we make.

Climbing Mount Everest once is hard enough, and the second time is probably just as hard. In fact, it may be harder and harder each time because the passion of the first time we achieved something together is so strong. I hope we haven’t reached the peak yet, and I hope we will have more unforgettable memories to look back on when we talk here five years later.
