How much do you know about the threats faced by stray cats?
Cats have amazing reproductive capabilities. A female cat can give birth to 3-4 kittens or even more in one litter, and these kittens will soon grow up and breed more offspring. In order to avoid such a situation, most pet cat owners usually choose to take their cats for sterilization, but even so, many newborn cats are still forced to wander and face various threats.
The biggest problem faced by stray cats is food. As the number of stray cats in the city gradually increases, resources such as food and water are becoming increasingly scarce. Even if cats rummage through trash cans, it is sometimes difficult to find food. Only a small number of cats are lucky enough to eat cat food provided by kind people, but this is only temporary. Before meeting someone willing to adopt, it is normal for stray cats to be hungry and full.
Many stray cats have difficulty surviving the cold winter. There is snow in the north, while in the south it is often rainy and the wind is biting. Stray cats have no fixed place to live, and even newborn kittens have very little resistance and face extremely cruel life threats. Every winter, a large number of stray cats disappear from people’s sight, never to be seen again.
Most stray cats are not vaccinated, so they are more susceptible to various diseases. In addition, the food and water they eat for a long time are stale, and they have some physical problems. In a group of stray cats living together, once an individual cat is infected with an infectious disease, such as cat ringworm, feline distemper, etc., the entire group may suffer.
Sometimes, humans are also one of the threats faced by stray cats. The cries of stray cats during estrus are unbearable for many people. They sometimes scratch and bite passers-by, damaging the sanitation of the community environment. Therefore, some people have an unfriendly attitude towards stray cats. What's even more outrageous is that there are some people in society who enjoy abusing cats, and stray cats are their main targets. Many of these cats died due to human abuse, which is very cruel.
Fortunately, some stray animal rescue organizations have emerged. Many cat lovers call for adoption instead of purchasing. Methods to control the number of stray cats have also emerged (capture, sterilize and release). I believe that more and more stray cats will be able to find their own homes, and new poop scavengers will also be accompanied by loving pets.
Adopting a stray cat is certainly a joyful thing, but don’t forget to take it for a full body checkup, timely vaccinations and deworming. External expelling can be done once a month to prevent cats from being infected by parasites.
