I’m not responsible for being scratched by someone else’s pet cat | An old lady was scratched by a cat in a fruit shop. The shop owner was unwilling to take responsibility, causing a dispute.
Hualong.com reported at 12:00 on July 11 (Correspondent Cai Zihe, Reporter Que Ying) News from the Public Security Bureau of Shapingba District, Chongqing: Recently, at the gate of a community in Shapingba, an old man was scratched and bleeding by a cat in the store while buying fruit. He asked the shopkeeper to vaccinate him against rabies, but he was refused. In desperation, the old man had to call the police for help.
At about 11 o'clock on July 8, the patrol police from the 110 Quick Service Team of Shapingba District received a call from an old man claiming that he was scratched by a cat at a fruit stall on Xiaolongkan Main Street in Shapingba District, and a dispute broke out.

The police rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the alarm and saw the caller, Granny Zhang. It is understood that Granny Zhang is in her 60s and lives nearby. After inspection, it was found that there were two wounds on Granny Zhang's left calf, and the bleeding has stopped.
According to Granny Zhang, she had just bought fruit at a fruit stall and didn’t notice that a cat was sleeping under the fruit stall. When she was picking fruits, she accidentally kicked the cat and the cat scratched Granny Zhang’s left calf twice. She was scratched and bled on the spot.
The fruit stall owner saw that Granny Zhang’s leg was scratched by his cat. He quickly brought water to Granny Zhang to clean the wound. Granny Zhang also quickly squeezed out the blood from the wound with her hands. After the wound was cleaned, Granny Zhang discussed the aftermath with the fruit stall owner. Granny Zhang believed that the cat scratched her unintentionally and that her injuries were not serious. She did not need the fruit stall owner to pay compensation. She only hoped that the fruit stall owner would write a guarantee to herself to ensure that if there were other sequelae such as lesions due to the cat scratch in the future, the fruit stall owner would not be able to evade responsibility.

The fruit stall owner refused to write a guarantee letter, so the two parties had a dispute, and Granny Zhang called 110 to call the police. After the police learned about the situation, they told Granny Zhang that after she was scratched and bitten by an animal such as a cat or dog, she should go to the hospital for examination and treatment and receive a rabies vaccine in time. She should not go to the hospital for examination just because she felt no discomfort temporarily. At the same time, the police informed fruit stall owners that they are obliged to take good care of their pets and should bear corresponding legal liability if their pets harm others. After mediation by the police, the two parties reached an agreement. Granny Zhang went to the hospital for rabies vaccination on her own, and then reimbursed the fruit stall owner with the invoice.
The police remind the general public to take good care of their pets to avoid harming others. Pets that harm others should bear corresponding legal responsibilities! The general public is also reminded that if they are scratched or bitten by pets, they should seek medical treatment and get vaccinated promptly to avoid serious consequences.
